Frequently asked questions
- Why does my transparent PNG background become white in JPG?
- JPG does not support transparency. This converter fills transparent areas with white before encoding. If you need to keep transparency, convert to WebP instead.
- What quality setting should I use?
- Quality 90 is a good default for most uses. For web thumbnails 70–80 is fine. For high-quality archival images use 95–100.
- Will I lose quality?
- Yes — JPG is lossy. Higher quality settings preserve more detail at the cost of larger files.
- Is EXIF metadata preserved?
- No. The Canvas API strips metadata during conversion. The output JPG will not contain EXIF or other embedded data.
- Is my file uploaded anywhere?
- No. All conversion happens locally in your browser using the Canvas API.
